Yeah thats a good point, so lets just go ahead and put the blame and pressure on Bioware and as you said - we may finally get Jade Empire 2, although TBH i dont think thats gonna happen any time soon though, as of this moment they are working on Mass Effect 3 (which is no bad thing :))

That sounds more like the GPU/ CPU is struggling somewhat than an actual issue with the game itself, Crysis is VERY GPU dependant.

I get huge FPS dips if i demolish a building in crysis - something like 10 fps down, not sure why though as that kind of thing uses the CPU for the physics and im running a 3.4GHz Quad Core - although i may have read somewhere that Crysis only uses 2 cores...

Also the more enemies on screen at a time the more work the CPU has to do with the AI.

Yeah im the same - i can run other games for hours without any problems - ME 2, BF:BC 2, FC2 etc... just Crysis that seems to be giving any and all issues.

Hi Holiday (could do with one now :p)

Yes all my drivers are cleanly installed - i use driver sweeper just to be sure i got everything before installing driver updates.
The only memory options in the Bios are those for RAM and the IGP's mem (all of which are at normal ranges) - no options for altering ANY of the video cards settings.
Not really sure which other games would be so Vid-mem intensive, i play FC 2, BF:BC2, MW2 etc... and have had no issues with any of them, its just Crysis.
No, nothing overclocked (with the exception of the CPU:NB which is running @2400MHz (stock is 2000) at 1.150v), video card, CPU, and RAM are all at stock.

Cant say ive tried, although im not sure how to 'reject' the patch after you install it - i thought the only way to get rid of the patch was to install a fresh cory of the game - although i could be wrong...

Ps. sorry for the extra long post - just tried to fit everyone in :p

    Another report to make.

Got all the way to the Carrier missions, about 5 hours of gametime again, and it stalled and crashed yet again. This time although i am able to restart the game at the save point, where it either runs a bit(got to another save point) and crashes, or just outright crashes yet again. (still have it vanilla, no patches)

So it looks promising that it does start again, but so far it just crashes to desktop within minutes. I think im gonna try a restart to the pc, see if that effects it, maybe throw the 1st patch in to see if it helps. Also setting the graphics to medium doesnt really seem to affect much aside from giving me higher fps. (by sight, wasnt running the fps tool)

It will be interesting to see what happens after a restart.

That's exactly what I meant, reinstall and then not patching. :)

As for video intensive games, Dragon Age or The Witcher can take a video card for a good run, as can Mass Effect. Any game released in the past few years actually.

Amen on that. I dont even think i can run DA on High really, or The Witcher. I think i usually play them on mid settings and they still look pretty fantastic.

Update on Crysis: DEFINITELY a memory issue, weather its a leak or just poor in game usage. I restarted my pc after the crash, game runs like a champ. I do notice the slowdowns after any death, restart, or screen load the most.

    And,

    its over.

Crysis is officially unfinishable on my machine at least. Got the game to run, with the patch, still crashes on the deck of the Aircraft carrier, in the middle of the battle with the huge land walker, no matter the setting.

the patch did enable me to get past the opening sequence without a freeze though.

Hopefully they learned enough from this POS that they dont screw up Crysis 2.

That's one of the reasons I have such a high opinion of Bioware, their PC games still look god on low settings, and more importantly they run well. They know how to optimize their games, and they make sure they are playable on older hardware.

Crysis is horrible, and needs to become a frightening example of total failure for game development colleges around the world. It still baffles me the developers behind that bug fest are proud of making it nearly unplayable.

I'll second that, Crysis is without a doubt the most poorly optimised game to be released within the past decade. Crytek seriously need to get thier act together and start developing games that will actualy work as they are supposed to.

Crysis for me is just not playable after around 15 - 20mins or so because the stuttering is SO severe, thats assuming it doesnt just quit after a few mins.

I just hope that Crytek can do better with Crysis 2, the entire game engine needs to be re-done from the ground up, Crysis is a perfect example of 'how not to program a game', only hope they realise that before they release Crysis 2.
