I ran the utility trojan remover on my IBM thinkpad tablet X41 as I suspected from malware or trojans etc. It found 2 items that were malware and they were renamed. But I can not remember exactly what they were. Now when I reboot I can not get into windows. I am stuck at the security window where you are supposed to hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE to gain access. IT does NOTHING.

I have tried rebooting in safe mode - same problem. How do I get into windows to fix this screw up!!

The only suggestion I have is to insert a bootable CD/Floppy and proceed from there, sounds like you will have to do a repair install, as it appears you are missing critical items for Windows Cr*ppy news I am afraid!!!! But hey welcome to Major Geeks were your never alone in your sorrows.:)

    Hi carebear59

    Welcome to MajorGeeks

Personally I've never seen this issue before and I'm pretty sure its hard to block ctrl-alt-delete using a keyboard hook. before logon.

If you press the caps lock key a couple of times does the light go on and off?

If you press space on the Security WIndow does it popup the help dialog.

These 2 bits of information will help me determine whether something has specifically targeted the CTRL-ALT-DEL keystrokes or if the whole keyboards is not working.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks carebear59!:)

Please don't start threads in more than one forum for the same issue as this just causes confusion not only for the person trying to get help (you) but those trying to assist you. I have merged your threads together and have left the thread in the Malware forum until it is determined you do not have a Malware issue as you mentioned in your inital post you did have a trojan.

If it is determined you no longer have a malware issue, we will then direct you to the appropriate forum so you can get your issue resolved.:)

    Good luck!:)

Thanks for the response. When I press the CAPS lock the light does not go on. The space bar does nothing. However the function keys work - that is I can toggle the wireless modem radio on and off.

My concern is that the 2 files the trojan remover renamed were essential to logon process. But I can not remember the type of malware it was or the name of the file.

Any thought you might have are appreciated.

There used to be a problem similar to yours, when adware remove a file. Was the file Wsaupdater.exe, that was removed by Trojan Remover.
