Hello kind people, I come in peace.
But to business....My Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop keeps crashing when I go online, usually after about half an hour to an hour. I get the blue screen with the 'A problem has been detected....' message. I then have to restart. Now I'm also getting a CTMBHA.DLL error loading message on restart.

I am using Windows XP Professional 2002 servicepack3.

    I have run CC cleanup.

Any suggestions? (please be gentle, I'm not experienced).

I was not doing anything unusual when the system first shut itself down....infact, every time it shuts down i have not been active on the pc. I have not downloaded any new software or hardware.

    Thanks in advance. Polly.

    Hi

That file is generally linked to a Soundblaster audio card, but looking at your PCs tech specs, your laptop comes with Sigmatel audio, but reading a little bit, I noted that Dell uses Soundblaster files in the Sigmatel driver on some models, so I would first try and re-install your Audio drivers from HERE

However its the crashing when you are going online that is a curious one so next time you Blue Screen please write down the code given as it helps link to what the cause is.

*tip try not to use ..... between the text as the forums spamfilters think this is spam, so sends in into a list that one of the admins needs to go through to determine if the post is good or spam, cheers :)

Many thanks, Halo :) I'm in the process of downloading the drivers, but in the meantime thought i'd pass on the info on the error screen im getting when the system shuts itself down:

    Tech Info: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003; 0x8AF0C30, 0x8A8F0DA4, 0x805D297C)

Does that help or do you need the full screen text?

Also, the connection icon in the startup icons bar is crossed out, even though I have a connection. This is not normal so I thought it may be relevant to diagnosis.

Update - OK, so i tried to install the drivers but no joy - got this for my error log:

"[09/03/09,17:38:17] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603
[09/03/09,17:38:42] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed."

I would really appreciate some feedback -
    many thanks in advance. Polly

Update Two - I can no longer run my i-pod as the system doesn't recognise it and nor will it let me update the driver.

    Hi

You are having too many random issues and errors and with being a laptop, some of the connections to either ram or the HDD could have come loose, but depending on how technical you feel it maybe worth asking a tech friend to check those for you.

Can you boot into Safe Mode, (F8 at boot) and your PC work ok, or same issues?

Do you have the Windows XP disk as we may need to run checkdisk on your PC to see if their are some corrupted system files, if yo udo then click Start > Run and type chkdsk /r and hit enter then when finished again click Start > Run and now type sfc /scannow and hit enter

also this could be related to malware as you mention you have not installed any new hardware or software, so do run the below

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Many thanks, Halo :) I agree, the problems are all very random. Unfortunately I don't have the XP disc, however I'll run the cleanup and see what that throws up - thankyou so much for your help on this - i'll report back on the malware forum :wave

    Hi

Link me to the thread you start in the malware forum, not that I'm an expert in that area but something may show for me in the logs, do be aware to attach all the logs you can from the guide and then dont post in the thread in malware you create as the experts there work from oldest to newest threads and as malware is a PITA these days it may take then 2 days or so at present to get to your post so please bare with us as they are supert at what they can do in removing any malware if its found,

Do try Safe Mode and see if that helps.
