CTRL ALT DEL, IE and other software take too long to open. What I mean is that possibly due to registry changes or changing Administrative Tools/services some programs on reboot will take about 5 minutes to open even though I have 512 RAM and only a 3-year old labtop.
This is especially so if I go online and more so if I go offline.
For example If I go online by clicking on my ISP link and then open IE it will take forever however if I open IE first (set on blank) and then choose a favorite link the "Connect" will pop up and all is OK. If however I then go to click on IE from the quick link on the toolbar it will take about 5 minutes, If I just click on a link on the already opened browswer then no problem. If I log off, shut all opened browsers and try to open IE or other software amny will take up to 5 minutes to open. This includes CTRL ALT DEL (or CTRL Shift Esc).
No viruses, antitrojans, spyware or what-have-you seem to be in my PC.

    here is my HiJackThis.log file

    Any advice?

    Thank you

Yeah, sounds like it might be registry...but not so much if it happens with alot of programs. I suggest you defrag (with a proper program, something like Diskeeper) regularly (are you running XP or 98?) as a start. Also get yourself something like the trialware of TuneUp Utilities and use the registry fixer. There are a number of other similar programs at MajorGeeks.com that you can search for. gl

Defrag is done at almost adnauseum so is not even close to the problem--Just so you know very little has been installed and HD was recently formatted. The OS is Windows XP with SP2. Fix-It Utilities has been used to clean out junk and the possibility lies there as a culprit as well. The programs it happens the most with is anything to do with the internet, Browser, P2P and so on and those mentioned. As said, especially If i go offline. If I open a text file it will only be slightly slow. The only true slow ones are Browser if from the task bar and CTRl ALT DEL. Scracth that they are all slow if I go offline and some on reboot. Once programs have been opened (Word, Photoshop...) they will reopen quickly the 2nd time if they had been closed before--hence the reboot mention. BUt will not reopen quickly if I had been online and went off. Of possible importance is my mention of a constantly empty Prefectch folder.

Hmmmmm... it's gone above my head.

You recently formatted it? I would re-install the lot if you can. I don't see how the problem can persist with standard XP settings, normal programs (I don't see anything off on your ht logfile) and your spec's.. Re-installing windows should do the job. It obviously wasn't taking that long before right? It doesn't sound like it's any one program causing the problem, so re-install.

I'm sorry I can't offer any better answer, gl!
