Must I uninstall NAV/Internet Security software before downloading/installing free Avast AV? Thanks

Having 2 antivirus on your system can make it unstable.
Only one must be installed at a time.

You should never run more than one antivirus application.

Unfortunately Norton can be extremely difficult to remove.

Try Add/Remove in Control Panel, however if that fails then depending on your version you can use the Rnav Removal Utility or Manual Removal.

    In simple steps:

    1. Keep NAV and NIS (Norton Internet Security) running and download Avast AV.
    2. Disconnect from Internet.
    3. Uninstall NAV.
    4. Install Avast AV.
    5. Re-connect after any re-boots and download updated virus signature and program updates for Avast AV.

At no time should there be no anti-virus running. Keeping NIS and Avast AV together running is OK. There is no need to uninstall NIS unless you wish to download an install Zone Alarm or another Firewall. By the way, which version of MS Windows are you using?

I've done the above but Avast AV didn't settle well with my PC, kept hanging at shutdown despite a total cleam out of NAV.
