After booting everything is working fine, but after
about 10 minutes or so the curser freezes and the
system has to be resarted to correct it. Sometime
it does it several times and then it's okay. I have
replaced the mouse pad and even the mouse, but
    the problem continues.
It is a Dell computer and is running Vista Basic.
    Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

    What happens in safe mode?
Please state the model of Dell and the number with it.

It seems to work ok in the safe mode, but since it is an
    intermittent problem I'm not sure.
It is a Del Model Insprion 531.

Check the Event Viewer (right click Computer > Manage > Event Viewer) and look in the System category. Look for any errors that occurred at approx the same time as the lock-up. Also look under the Applications category for errors. If any are listed, please post the errors. What about PC maintenance? Sometimes and abundance of junk files and a fragmented drive can cause problems? Have you done any virus/spyware scans? You should also try running a hard drive diagnostic. You can download the free diagnostic from the hard drive maker's web site (check the Device Manager under Disk Drives to find out who made the drive; right click Computer > Manage > Device Manager). Let us know how all this goes, and we'll go from there.... After running the appropriate scans for malware, you may need to post in the Malware Removal Forum with the requested scan logs, and the experts there will help get you straightened out.... good luck!

If it runs without the freezeup in safe mode, that would indicate a software, specifically a driver problem. Safe mode does not load all your drivers.

Have you updated any drivers lately?

Was this computer originally running XP?

After following your directions, I discovered that
    it was the software.
    Thanks for all the help.
