Okay one of the SATA power connectors on my power supply broke (the plastic part) which I believe is causing a show on that specific cable and making all other power connections on the cable unusable.

My question is would it be safe to simply cut that cable at the PSU and terminate the ends with wire tape or not?

    Greetings, Sylvan Sorrow...

Electrically speaking, there is nothing wrong with what you're proposing. If there is nothing connected to the cable at any point, if the wires are all safely isolated and insulated, and if you observe all safety precautions (ie: make sure the power is off/unplugged when you make the cut), then you should be alright.

Might not look the best, and cutting a cable is crossing that 'point of no return', but if you're savvy enough to try something like this for a fix, then I say go for it...;)
