I have a Vista Ultimate system and am trying to load an OEM disc in D drive. Nothing happens. I clicked on Computer and selected Drive D and clicked it. "Please insert disc" Took disc out, closed and reopened the bay and re-inserted disc and nothing.

Have used D Drive before with no problems. Any suggestions? Bearing in mind I'm not totally familiar with computers. Thanks

Try the advice Halo gives to this popsbt in this thread:

Do any other discs work in that drive? Does that disc work on any other computers? If you right click on the D:\ and select Eject, does the bay do as instructed?

Thanks. It seems I have a bad disc. I had bought M/S Works Suite 2006 from a third party reseller. It came in OEM package with Word product key.
I ran the M/S MATS diagnostic and it reported "media not readable" All other tests passed.
Inserted another disc and it ran.

Well spotted! Also be aware that 'bad discs' can actually just mean 'cheap recordable discs'. If it's a recordable disc then they have a much thinner layer between the outside of the disc and the data, which some CD/DVD readers fail to read (or fail to read well). Likewise poor CD/DVD readers may fail to read a good quality recorded CD. Even if it's not a recordable CD it might be scratched or smudged which is preventing the information from being read, but hasn't actually penetrated the data.

So in short: clean the disc, try it on another computer, and then if it still doesn't work you should seek a refund.

Thanks again. This appears to be from M/S. It has the OEM label with the silver 'thread' on right side of label along with a Word product key.
Disc appears to be blemish/scratch free, but I'll try it on another computer this afternoon.
