Its not a claim or theory, time does slow down the faster you move compared to a fixed reference point, you don't have to get close to the speed of light all you have to do is move say 10mph away from a person then return to them and you have time travelled into the future by a small amount.

Many peer reviewed experiments have confirmed this and is accepted by all the scientific community and the world as fact.

    Premature reasoning?

Ya, premature IMO, if Stephen doesn't comment on it, it's premature to me. ;) I really have no idea Rikky and I just watched a 2 hour show on this! Michio had several segments too.

I never said there was no matter/energy conversion. I even cited the mass change of a helium atom in an above post. A star does not convert all of it's mass into energy. My proposition/hypothesis is that matter is fused into a heavier particle at the core of a black hole, much like quarks make up protons, and protons make up heavier atoms. Thereby the fusion of matter into a hypothetical heavier particle creates the high band radiation. Eventually, wouldn't an evaporating black hole (if it actually does in reality) probably start to shine again as gravity slowly released it's grip? How long would the process take?

What if all the supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies merged back together well before they could evaporate? The Big Bang was a mighty powerful explosion, and in eventuality I would think the outward expansion would slow down.

So, what touched off the exponentially magnified Supernova type explosion that we call the "Big Bang"? Something had to set it off.

That had to be one incredibly massive black hole, I would think. I find it hard to believe it was a tiny size, when we have no sure calculation for gravity to properly predict that. In fact, if nothingness or oblivion actually does exist at the center (that would mean a pure matter/energy conversion with no "leftovers", i.e. a particle to show for it), wouldn't that contradict the ability of the Universe to start out from a central point to begin with? Something with that much matter would just evaporate incredibly faster, wouldn't it?

I think it was probably one last supermassive black hole floating around in empty space after a big crunch, and then merged with the massive one responsible for the creating the Universe, and BANG! The universe was born. Maybe all over again. There are stars that explode repeatedly by "stealing" matter from a companion. These massive things hold whole galaxies together, they might be able to attract eachother over vast stellar distances, wouldn't you say?

I love trying to wrap my mind around this stuff!

I'm for the expansion/contraction theory myself.

True. I was assuming Euclidian geometry.

They aired the same show at about the same time in Aust., too, on Disco Channel. I never get tired of seeing it. Cosmology and Quantum Mechanics are two of my pet subjects, but no time to comment much, a.t.m.

I have the time to comment on it but not the knowledge to do it intelligently. I wish Carl Sagan was still around.:cry

THERE ARE NO PARTICLES AT THE CENTRE OF A BLACK HOLE :-D Try not to think of it as made of stuff its a black HOLE,an area of SPACE where our known laws of physics break down, nothing ever comes out of the centre black hole, read the article on hawking radiation again, the mass of the black hole is reduced remotely by particles beyond the event horizon.

Remember the gravity DOES NOT INCREASE beyond the original mass of the stuff that made it,if your 1000 light years away from a cloud of gas and then the gas turns into a black hole it wouldn't pull you toward it any harder.

Same again,if the universe is expanding now at a faster and faster rate in all likely hood there isn't enough mass in the universe to counteract this expansion, that's the important thing to note ''the amount of mass in the universe' not the number of black holes.

BTW we assume the force of gravity travels infinite distances when running the calculations,an atom in your eyeball is pulling on the atom in an aliens eyeball even if he's living at the edge of the universe.

Hmm, I think you might be.:-D
So you agree with me then that distance is not a dimension.

Hang on you just said it wasn't a dimension. And how do you move through an orange? ;)

Since when was time measured by the location of points? :confused

So you're now saying that distance is measured in time. How bizarre!

I can only assume you've fallen through one of those wormholes you appear to be fond of (there appear to be a lot of errors in your home page title banner by the way) from a parallel universe where mathematics and physics are different from this one. :)

    Sorry missed a bit.

That's not really a physics question anymore,I say we don't and may never know, others say God.

Well if you think about it if the whole universe did just turn into black hole and they all floated around gobbling each other up its logical to assume that there would be two before there's one,if there was enough mass in the universe and these black holes started attracting each other they would probably eventually hit each other at the speed of light,I suppose that may release the energy from the black holes,at least it would be interesting:-D

*sigh* If you're not going to be serious, I'm going to simply cease trying to be serious.

And the upkeep of the webpage isn't my responsibility.

Tell you what Rikky, I'd love to live to see us figure all this out. Maybe some other geek will read this thread, and have an epiphany so he/she might come up with something that works! :-D

Guess for now, I'll just keep "folding" ideas in the back of my mind!!!
