I dont know if this will work in your case. Try changing the extension from .dat to.avi. if that doesn't work, then you can change it back to the previous extension.

You need to be more specific with the type of file it is....there are alot of .DAT files. If its a type of media I think I might be able to help....but video converting can get kinda tricky. check out www.videohelp.com

sorry the previous message was damaged. Here it is :
actually you can't read datfiles since they never come alone, the player (or an activeX embedded in a webpage) need to know the address and offset included with the parameters within the page. Ex: http://interaktiv.vg.no/php/video/genwmv.php?b2=4&wmv=mms://video.vg.no/vg/05/02/1108649954_us_train.wmv&start=00:00:00&slutt=99:59:59&end=.wvx
Check out in your temporary internet files folder, you'll find the datfile, but you can't read it unless the webpage code.

Jeez, seem like I cannot paste the whole link. Anyway here is an example of html code for reading datfiles. Copy-paste into a textfile and name it with the extension .htm

thanx foogoo, nice tool indeed, but not efficient on all datfiles. Needs to find a valid signature inside, and streaming mpeg as well. On my previous post you can test by yourself. One thing strange: the file is a standard .wmv on the server and is stored as .dat in the temporary internet folder.

I'd like to use Xilisoft Video Converter. It can convert video file between DVD, VCD (.dat), SVCD, MOV, RM, RMVB, AVI, MPEG, WMV, 3GP, etc. Here is the guide and faq of the software.
