I have a new dell 660 inspiron desktop intel I5 with windows 8, 8 gb of ram and 1 teg hd. I always saved everything on a flashdrive key. I also did my backup for the new dell on a flashdrive and it was successful. But this is what I can't figure out. On old Dell XP I used flashdrives to store data and could access it whenever. So I put the flashdrive in a usb port because I wanted to post on facebook and it didn't sound as tho it was reading and I couldn't locate it. Where is it and where is my stuff. Windows 8 seems like its really scattered, nothing central and it makes me nutz! Help.

Does the flash drive, when connected, show up under "My Computer"? If it does, right click on the flash drive icon and select properties. If there's an AutoPlay tab, select "Open folder to view files", click apply and OK. When you insert the flash drive from that point onward, a folder with it's contents should open.

One caveat: always use safely remove hardware BEFORE pulling the flash drive. Simply pulling it after you are done using it could irreparably damage the flash drive because they're not "hot swappable".
