hi i 've been dealing with malware again . when i switched to hi speed it was unprotected for about a day because of conflicts and that was enough to get it infected. i just cleaned thisa couple of weeks ago. anyway, i think my counterspy is messed up; it won't load or run but it sure says its on. there's also some other problems, so see the attached logs. hope you guys are up for a good challenge. i will be so happy when this is over. it is making me lose my ability to load a page after about 30 minutes. i know i need xp , that's next but is being delayed due to current budgetary constraints.

In one of your previous threads I said:
You should have follow those instructions! You are still getting infections because you did not follow them. Follow all steps now and then attach a new HJT log.

Uninstall CounterSpy, reboot, and then reinstall. If this does not work, you are probably past the 15 day trial period.

If it works, attach the log.

hey charles- i did what you said. i had a working anti-virus, firewall ,and spyware protection. i bought counterspy; it shouldn't be quitting on me. suddenly when i switched to hi-speed it went to crap. i'll try to reinstall counterspy and run it. the other logs are attached . do you want me to run new ones?

UPDATE: i uninstalled counterspy and the cox security suite.rebooted and installed security suite again.no problems yet. i think it is clashing with the cox security suite. i am online solid so far and would like to take care of whatever malware i was hunting during all this. i don't think it would be wise to try to install counterspy yet. is there an alternative?

You never installed all the required updates for Windows and IE. I think you need them.

Boot into safe mode and delete the below:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\k404SearchSetup_MS28.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHAgentNew.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\kilacln.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Favorites\Stop PopUps On Your Computer.url

Those are your only visible malware problems.

You should not be running the below from McAfee, if you are going to use Command AV which I assume you also got from COX along with their secuirty suite.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mgavrtclexe] C:\WINDOWS\MCBin\AV\Rt\mgavrtcl.exe

I did not need a new HJT log. It has been clean since the first one. The files I had you delete only showed in your Panda log.

You problems are not malware. Try the Software Forum. My suggestions:

    1) dump all the junk from COX and install stuff we recommend in How to Protect yourself from malware!
    2) Get all of your Windows Updates - just like Microsoft does not supporrt Win98 platforms anymore, we cannot help you if you refuse to get the proper updates on your system.
    3) run System File Check from a command prompt: sfc /scannow
