To be strictly correct, Tasmania started this weekend, other states start at the end of October, so OZ gradually goes from 3 basic timezones to 5. Very confusing. Lots of people love it, lots hate it.

Queensland, the state where I live it, dont have it all.
We voted NO in a referendum.

This really upsets those living in the South East corner of the state, but in the far north where I live most hate it.

I'd be interested in our worldwide MG members opinion of daylight saving, in their area.

Does the UK come off daylight saving this weekend?
If so, I have to adjust my Planet Clock for the UK. Bazza

Just checked, we change on the 29th of October. I know the rest of Europe does at the same time we do, so you don't have to change the UK time till then! :)

Positive side: It will still be light in the evenings for a little while longer!

Negative side: I was so happy about the prospect of an extra hour sleep! Damn you for getting my hopes up like that, Bazza!

    :D

Thanks Solange, and others. Guess most of the world cahnges at the end of October.

Australians, to be different, have 2 different dates to start daylight saving, but it looks like the daylight saving states will soon (next year?) align themselves with Tasmania and start at the start of October, instead of most at the end of October.

I think whether you like daylight saving, or not, depends on your Latitude (distance from the Equator). Those living near the Equator have plenty of daylight and don't need it.

Those living far South, and far North, of the Equator, want all the daylight they can get.

Cairns, for example, is around 17°S latitude, Brisbane, our Capital, and in the very South of the State is around 27°S.
That 10° difference makes a big difference in attitudes.

In the UK, North America and Europe, the differences would be even more pronounced, I guess. Bazza

..Except for Western Australia. We don't do Daylight Saving.

(Daylight robbery with moist of our prices, maybe.;))

we dont do it. our days only go from 5:30 am - 7:30pm in summer to 6:30 am - 5:30pm in the winter. believe or not, after a while you really notice those two hours! i get confused about the time differences though. its worse when dealing with the us time zones, as at least england only has the one.

Personally it doesn't make a difference to me!! I'm usually ready for a change of pace by the time each time change arrives!!

unfortunatly daylight savings time is still in the U.S. ..... its kind of a pointless practice IMO..... it all came about due to farming.... and last i checked the only real "farmers" around are your mom-and-pop local guys.... i dont count those jacka**es growing GM food cuz the guvment gives em a break for it

Daylight saving strikes this weekend on OZ, and elsewhere I guess.

All Australian states, except Queensland, go on daylight saving this weekend.
Not sure about the NT, though.

I guess that in Europe, USA, and other countries, daylight savings ends this weekend.

Make sure you adjust your alarm clocks, plus or minus, an hour.

Keep an eye on your PC clock to see if you have daylight saving option ticked.
They (pollies) are talking about splitting Queensland into different time zones. :p

Heard on the radio station this morning, while working on MG, that the best site for daylight saving and world time zones is www.timeanddate.com

Haven't checked it out personally, yet. Bazza

Well daylight saving came to OZ, last weekend. :p
Not for Queensland, NT and WA, though.
Now 5 time zones, ranging from 1 hour ahead, to 3 hours behind (WA).:p

Must play havoc with devising aero flight timetables, and confuse tourists.
Did Europe, USA and others also change last weekend, or is it next weekend? Bazza

Actually Daylight Saving Time, is the time change that we do in the spring, and we fall back to regular time for the winter months, was enacted during the First World War to save energy. There will be a change in the timing starting in 2007 for most North Americans interesting Link:- http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.html

Bazza you know the mods don’t like us to bring back old threads….here in the USA they changed daylight savings, used to be six months out of the year….started the first week of April, and ended the last week of October….two weeks ago it started, and ends in November some time……..wobbles

    Curious!

You all seem relieved that it is over! Why? I love daylight savings time, gives me more light when I'm awake (which certainly is not early mornings...).

    Why such a relief?

Here in West Austalia we have way too much sun and extreme heat at the end of the day and so like to get up early and do things before the heat kick in. With daylight saving we are in the dark in the morning.

Cant say Ive enjoyed it too much this time around
    Interferes with my Nanna-Nap :D

I remember when we had it last,
over 20 years ago I would imagine.
It was great as a kid, we used to go down the beach and eat dinner every other day, quality family time.

So, Im actually all for it, just for that reason.
Plus it gives me time to get out into the garden at the end of the day.

Well, the thread beginnings are very relevant, i.m.o.

I am more of a night creature, too. Me and hot sun don't mix, so the less I'm out and about in it, the better for me.

I think it all depends on your Latitude location. The further away from the Equator, the more the benefits of daylight saving time, IMHO. Bazza
