DDR2 Cards Vs DDR1 Motherboard

I have DDR1 ram on my motherboard, and I was wandering, if I buy a video card that uses DDR2, would that card work on my computer, or do I have to find a video card that uses DDR1 instead.

 

yeah it will work. If you can go for a graphic card with DDR3.

the "DDR2", "DDR3" and "GDDR3" references in Video cards are NOT the same as DDR and DDR2 RAM. They are specfic to the video card industry, and as such, are self contained on the video card (motherboard independent).

7600GT. That card uses DDR3

Those cards are AGP. You might have PCIE but the same thing goes for that. DDR3 is used on most of your mid to high end cards why DDR2 is used on low to middle end cards.

thought i could help here but looks like you guys just about rapped that one up, just to throu a spanner in the cogs, keep in mind that ddr2 usually runs at half the clock speed of ddr, its faster because it passes 4 bits of data at one time, ddr passes two, so it allows faster data transfer without resorting to stupidly hot and power hungry clocks. again the ram on your graphics card and the ram on your motherboard are not related, but aim for the higher numbers if you can afford them!hoped this might re-ignite a short thread lol :major i-CONICA :major
