ddrawex.dll file corrupt

(WindowsXP)

I recently started getting an error message when I try to play a few
different games I have installed on my pc:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddrawex.dll is not a valid Windows image.
Please check against your installation diskette.

I don't have a diskette, so I:
1) ran scandisk -- didn't help.
2) SysRestore -- didn't help.
3) uninstalled the games then re-dowloaded and installed them -- still no help

Finally, I found the file in the system folder and tried to delete it altogether but received
an error message saying that I could not delete it because
"The file is corrupted and unreadable" !!!

Well, then I thought I'd outsmart the darn thing and rename it so I could move it,
but it won't let me do that either... (guess it outsmarted me instead).

As I am pretty clueless when it comes to tech. problems, that's when I
gave up and decided to come seek guidance from someone b4 I try the
"get a bigger hammer" method of repair

Any help would be greatly appreciated

 

Nevermind. Problem solved.
(I went with the "get a bigger hammer" method of repair; works everytime )
