Okay, I was playing CS:Source this afternoon when my computer shut off completely. Now when I hit the power button, my front LEDs light up for a fraction of a second, and the power light comes on and stays on unless I push the power button for 5 secs and no fans and no lights turn on. The light on the motherboard next to the power connector is on, so I don't think its the power supply.

    Any clues?

According to your above note, I see your computer work normally. When you push the power button on the leds light up and then you push the power button for 5 seconds at that time your computer will be turn off. there 's for no fan and light works. the light on the motherboard is on because your computer alway connect to electrical system.
if you want to test your PSU, pull male plug out then take the jack 20, 24 pin out of the main board, use electrical wire conncect the green wire to the black wire of the jack 20, 24 pin from PSU, after that push male plug again, if the fan of PSU run that mean your PSU is good. After that you check to other hardwares

    good luck

My lights flash really quickly when I hit the power button, but then they turn off, what do you mean when you said my computer's working normally? The power supply is okay, I don't know where to go from here.

just because ur computer is lighting up for a bit, dont mean ur psu is giving 12 volts, it still can be your psu. im betting if you try a new psu really quick you will find me to be correct. ;)

Even if its lighting up the light next to the port on my motherboard? Also, the PSU test spins the PSU fans...anyone else?

yes, even if the light next to the port is lighting up. ur fans can spin all they want, if its not feeding the computer 12 volts, its not going to start up. ur mobo is constantly being powered, either by psu, or battery. but like i said, because you get a few lights, even the one on the mobo, dont mean there is enough juice to start up the whole computer.

If you said the PSU is OK, first to avoid PSU's Volt run down and protect your HDD, take HDD, CD, and other hardwares if you see that they do not use except PSU, Main, CPU, ram, Vga. Can you differentiate beep sounds from speaker of your motherboard ? in case if you take ram out, if you hear that mean your main and CPU still work, if you do not hear any sound that mean your main or CPU got wrong, then put ram in turn power on, if you hear about some bip sound that 's stable at the same time about 2 seconds for each beep that mean ram got problem, if you hear from 3, 4 beep sound continues in short time that mean you VGA card
If you have test main card is better, You see number on it you will know what wrong with your computer. that's all

    Good luck

Okay, maybe I didn't say this: nothing will turn on after that initial flash of the leds...no beep codes, no cd rom function, no hdd access...nothing. I will try a different psu and let you know the results...could it possibly be a dead stick of memory? I'd think I would at least get a beep code... Is my mobo dead?

Okay guys, tried a new PSU...no luck...:( It looks like I have a dead mobo...still under warranty though...i'm gonna contact Intel, unless you guys think it could be anything else....?

Right, tested CPU already, it work. Motherboard intel is rarely died I think you try to clean your mainboard first if it so dirty and it will make the main do not work properly. Dirty make PSU's Volt go down. try it, beside that take your action

I'd contact Intel, I had this happen to me not too long ago, it was the mobo, but in my case it was almost 8 years old so no huge loss.

Mainboard's clean....my other question is this: my cpu's been having problems overheating...or so thats what the motherboard sensor says...could it be the cpu? Do they burn out that quickly? I had 5 fans in my case creating an airduct and my temp read over 80C all the time. I think its just the mobo sensors, but I may have burned out my cpu.

I'd check to see if the fan/heatsink on the processor is properly seated. I've seen computers where it looks like it is seated, but really it wasn't. Also, for a quick test, remove your cmos battery for 5 mins or so, then put it back in. Any results? What about removing all of your memory, do you get any beep codes? What about removing your processor....

Also, do you have a speaker built into the motherboard?

over 80t*, you are sure it is from CPU or other hardwares, if it is right you should touch CPU heatsink then you will see it right or wrong, if it right you have to clean 2 face of CPU and heatsink and use allitle AS5 between core of CPU and heatsink make it(AS5) so thin it will be better, 5 fan it is good for your system but You have to put them how to get a good air heading. in the computer's system air heading go from front case to back case, base on the case you will put them at the right position, set Enable of warning t* in bios.
