No power, no lights ..."deader than Julius Ceasar"

Did the HP reset per the troubleshooter, checked my power supply, took out the battery, tried again. Absolutely nothin'

    Any ideas?

My first advice would be to reseat every component you can. Then check jumpers and DIP switches on the mobo (check the manual).

You're really short on options here. If you're absolutely certain that the PSU is working after following the above steps, then I would conclude that you need to replace your mobo. Yuck.

:( Perhaps its best that you got professional help in that case. That is, if you can justify the cost. Things look pretty grim for this laptop.

Or you can wait to see if anyone else has any better suggestions. I'm fairly confident these are the steps to take, though.

    Afraid you may be right...

one thing I considered trying, just to see if power is getting thru the laptop's power connector, is to attach a USB cable and put the VM probes on the other end contacts. A shot in the dark, I suppose, that maybe the connector came loose (I am wondering if this thing was dropped or banged into hard).
