default settings

My browser was hijacked a couple of days ago.. but managed to get things mostly back to normal.

I then had two missing "conduit background container " messages on start-up (I believe was left over from the hijack?)
I removed the entry in task Scheduler Library folder.. but still have one message appearing on start-up. I can live with it.

My problem seems to be (so far) only in my Live mail.. links won't open, and the message appears "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already installed, create an association the default programs control panel."

Copy and paste into my browser of the link does work..but a pain to do every time.
(One link was a web site and a another American Greetings card pick-up. I assume they are the same type of file.)

I wouldn't know how to begin to chose a default for these issues.
Any help would be appreciated.

 

If you're running Vista or 7, there's a Menu choice for assigning default programs that shows when you click on the Start Orb. It's right under Control Panel.

 

I found the default settings but didn't know what to choose.
In the list there were also several others without default settings.

I remembered several weeks ago..when I installed Google Chrome..didn't like ,uninstalled it..and had the same issue. So re-installed. Fixed the issue.

Since it was still sitting there in my documents..I temporarily made it my default browser, then changed my default browser back to msn.ca
All the default settings were restored.
I have no idea why that worked..but it did.

I have performed and run 98% of your programs and suggestions for malware removal..but plan to try once more to rid this annoying missing file on start up.
A couple I haven't tried.:confused
