hi all, does anyone have any ideas why my windows defender fails to update, i havn't had this problem before, the update failed wednesday on auto and manually up to now,
i am on w2kpro sp4 and i have installed the gdiplus.dll, i have been to microsoft help but it only seems to deal with xp,
the only thing i could find was a gte cybertrust root certificate that says it has expired or not yet valid when it should say its ok,
any help would be gratefully appreciated
    ta

    See if this works:
To resolve this problem, follow these steps: 1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and then click OK.
    2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs, and then click Windows Defender.
    3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and then click Check for Updates.
Make sure the Auto Update Service and BITS Service (in control panel, services) are running since Windows Defender uses the Microsoft Update service to update.

Also make sure Auto Update is enabled in System properties

hi, followed the instructions and got the message "windows defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80240022. the wrong diskette is in the drive. insert %2 (volume serial number: %3) into drive %1" doesn't mean a lot to me

hi, might have beat you on that one, downloaded windows installer clean-up and used it on defender then re-installed defender and tried to up-date and got the same message also googled the error code ( 0x80240022 ) and got bored of looking at xp problems

hi, following on with the problem - i have just had my auto updates installed, all completed apart from defender updates, tried manually again but failed, looked in my logs and this time reported as failed,
    any ideas

    hi all,
worked this one out (i think)

i have ad-aware pro installed with ad-watch, when i manually stop ad-watch.exe from task manager i can up-date defender, does anyone know why or have the same interesting problem

I have Ad-Aware SE Pro, and had to quit using the "ad-watch" feature. Interfered with some programs and at times ran 100% cpu.

Ad-watch had a particular conflict with Spybot's "TeaTimer".

same here, they used to fight a lot, so i stopped the tea-timer and kept ad-watch and all is calm
