I have a PC here with 3 different DefenderPro apps installed: DP Firewall, DP Antivirus, and DP Antispyware. Has anyone heard anything about this product? Is it legit? Is it rogue? I don't know if the PC's owner paid for the software and I don't want to remove it if it's legit and paid for.... any input concerning DefenderPro is appreciated....
    Thanks.

Kaspersky Labs tech powers a product called Defender Pro, so look in the apps for the Help > About and see if this one is indeed from Kaspersky Labs, if so its legit and ok.

As a rebadged app some have liked it some not but its not a full Kaspersky product just one that uses the Kaspersky engine and yes they will have paid for it.

I still go with the route of a well known freebie AV as in Avast and AVG, but if the owners of the PC have had no issues with this app then the old saying of dont fix what not broken applies.

;) Yeah... I suppose that's true.... Thanks for all the info guys... the PC seems to run alot better with all the DP stuff turned off in msconfig, but it's not my call to make as to whether or not it gets removed....

The PC in question was having trouble connecting to the internet, but when I tried to ping an IP, it worked 100%. So I tried Firefox Portable (a great quick way to determine if a connection problem is just IE, hardware, or something else) and it connected right away, no problems. So I disabled all the DP-ware and.... BAM!..... IE now works just fine and will connect and surf. I re-enabled the DP-ware and looked at the firewall settings. It turns out that Internet Explorer was the ONLY application that was blocked from connecting! There was some adware in the same list that was assigned full access to the internet (it was WhenUsave, Freeze, and another that I can't remember right now)!!! Crazy. Naturally I removed the adware with some deep scans; surprisingly nothing else was found. I also allowed IE to connect in the DP firewall. Duh. Anyway, I don't think I will recommend an app that allows adware full web access, but blocks IE, and does this by default from what I can tell. It's fairly obvious to me that the owners of this PC are somewhat noobish, and that's OK. They were trying to do the right thing, they just chose a bad product. I did a bit of research, and DP was on sale at Walmart a while back for $9.99. I assume that's when it found it's way onto their PC. Needless to say, I will be having a discussion with the PCs owners on Monday, and hopefully I can talk them into letting go of the Defender Pro :crap-ware.
