Hi, I have to defrag my laptop drive but ms defrag says it cant defrag this "read only drive".

Its not 'read only' as I've been using it normally for a couple of years. I downloaded Fast defrag from Majorgeeks and that also cant do it due to "limited access to C:"

Its an IBM Thinkpad T22 and I have full administrator access.

Whats going on? and can anyone help?

    Thanks

    David

Check the permissions on the drive. Open 'My Computer', right click on the drive and select properties. Select the security tab and make sure your user has full access to the drive by checking everything in the 'Allow' column.
If you're running XP Home, you need to do this from safe mode.

Thanks for replying but I dont have a security tab, just - General,Tools,Hardware,Sharing,Quota.

There are no security settings within these tabs either.

    I'm running XP professional.
