Defrag not completing...spyware?

    Hi,

I've done a massive deletion of files on this machine (Windows 98) and tried to run defrag. It gets to 75% or so and then stops saying something is running in the background and interferes with completion.

I've run McAfee, AdAware and Spybot to see if it was spyware or adware.

Can a lack of memory (only 64Ram) interfere with completing the process if nothing else is running?

    Any ideas?

Screensaver is turned off...but that gave me another idea...maybe it's the power/standby settings...

What's the difference between that URL Spyware program you gave me and Spybot/Adaware/McAfee?

    Thanks!

    Monica

I had the same problem with another computer running Windows 98 SE. The defrag just seemed to freeze at a certain point and there it sat.

I found that by turning off my screensaver and going into safe mode helped defrag to complete.
    :)
