Right click on the wireless connection and check the nic configuration ...also make sure wileless is enabled in the router. (wep encryption ?).

If it can't renew the ip address than it ain't talking to the router ...open network places ...show connections ...on the wireless ...right click ...properties ...on the top you'll see your ethernet card ...configure next to it ...click on that and set both ip and dns to auto detect ....if still problems ( though you may have to restart first) .....then run / type "cmd" without qoutes and at the command prompt type ipconfig /all post that.

say what ................ If I could do that I probably wouldn't be here ,you lost me at paint not even sure where that is , computer is a hobby not a life style, you told me to set the ip and dns to auto detect I didn't see them where you toldme in xp home maybe I missed some thing?

I've got over 6000 packets sent in my belkin wireless config utility ,0 received ,my signal strength is exellent 54mbps ,so I'm obviously talking to the modem ? . In my wireless network properties I get a message saying The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits deoending on my network config. this can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii carecters or 10 or 26 hexidecimal caracters?

You probably have wep enabled in the router .....so open a browser window and type in 192.168.1.1 and it should get you into the router configuration ...(not sure if belkin user is admin with no password ..) you will find the wep key (NETWORK PASSWORD) which is what you will need to put into the wireless connection for it to get on....
