Delete Restore Points except the last one

    Yesterday I did just that. Did this after I read a post about this right here in MG:
    Start>All Programs>System Tools> Disk Cleanup>More Options>. Under System Restore Points (except the most recent one) I clicked on that tab.

    It took quite some time and when I checked it afterwards it removed all but the last restore point.

    What is noticed when I went to My Documents later many items were compressed!! :cry :(

    What I always did previously was to turn off the restore and then enable it again and that always worked fine.

    What the heck did go on this time and is there a way that can I undo the compressed files? I restored to the last restore point but but that didn't work. Could something be corrupted?

    Yeah, I noticed a box with checks in it and I ignored it because I thought it would just do what I had asked and wanted to do and that was to delete all restore points except the last one. :( :eek: It did delete all restore points except the last one and from what I gathered was in addition to that compressing the "old" items in My Documents. Who knows what else.... I wanted to create an image to my external HD and therefore wanted to get rid of some unneeded restore points. Is it safe now to create an image with all these compressed files?

    Will it affect my systems performance or anything else?

    Is there a possibility that it can be UNdone?

    Hi Oma

    Yes fine compressed files wont hinder any image backup.

    Nope, modern PCs are quick enough to cope with compressed files.

    Possible way is to uncompress the/a folder all the files compressed by accident are in by using a CMD prompt and command line

    compact /u /s:C:\[folder] /a /q /i

    [Folder] = the folder these files are in, so maybe worth copying them to a new folder to test on, if it works then delete the compressed files and re-copy these new ones back.

    Thank you for all the answers you mentioned Halo!! However the above part goes waaaay over my head, don't understand it and am afraid to do it. :eek:

    Is there any (free) software available that would uncompress all of the compressed files? I'm just a senior and definitely not a geek - not even close...

    Hi Oma

    You'd be fine with this... you know more than you credit yourself for from what I read in your posts answering others, so if your game just create a new folder in C: call it test for arguments sake and copy all the files compressed into it ( so that you still have the originals in their original folder and compressed state as a backup ) then open an command prompt and type or copy and paste the below.

    compact /u /s:C:\test /a /q /i and hit enter.




    Not off hand come across an app to do this, but will search for something later if no-one else has come across such as beast!

    LOL No Halo, I'm still a newbie, especially everything what pertains to the C drive, how to access it etc. Messing with the OS that is.

    Where and how do I find all these compressed blue files in ONE batch (TONS of them in "Search" intertwined amongst the *normal* ones) and how do I copy them in one step into that "test" folder?

    Thank you so much for all your advice you've given me in the past and present.

    If it's too cumbersome I might just leave it as is..... *sigh*
