Deleted email in outlook missing

My father using Outlook 2007 and Win Vista, has after what he believes was a Vista update, now losing his deleted emails within outlook. He has an IMAP gmail account, which has been working ok up until 29 Nov.
Any ideas?

I'm no expert, but maybe changing the view might work. Go to View | Arrange By > Current View > Manage Views

If you delete the email they are not supposed to show up. The million dollar question is, do they show up in gmail.com.

Also if he is only doing email, not using the calendar function of Outlook, try Mozilla's Thunderbird, and see what happens.

Would the emails disappear immediately when deleted in Outlook for the Gmail account or are the missing deleted emails from over 30 days?

Have a sneaky suspicion that Google have re-inforced the deleted email after 30 days rules as they used to not work at all, I had spam dating back years that was not auto deleted after 30 days.

Can also check Outlooks settings and adjust for not deleting emails immediately, open Outlook and choose settings then the email account and click More Settings and then Advanced and check the deleted items options
