As many I tried to fix my CD drive. However instead of removing the upper/lower filter values, I removed the whole file... I'm working with a HP dv6000 with Vista. Because all traces of the CD drive is missing, I don't even know make or model of the drive... Can I recreate those missing filter files? I have also done a System restore to 3 days ago to try to fix my mistakes.

    Hi

Windows Vista you have is at what Service Pack? will come in handy if I/we need to give you steps or a registry file to try and fix your issue.

What whole file did you remove? was it in the registry and if so can you point to the steps you tried in deleting the upper and lower filters?

Could try this HERE run the FixIt

Also in Device Manager look for the DVD/CDROM drive listing and right click and uninstall it, then reboot and it may recreate the registry settings as well as install the driver back.

What is the exact model DV6000 you have as there are 19 of them, the sticker underneath should highlight this, if not please run the below

    Its a DV6608ca
I believe its all up to date, so I think it's service pack 2? In the device manager there is no CD, Drive showing.
I went into the reg, and I right clicked the upper/lower filters, and clicked delete. instead of clicking modify....
I used system restore, and the files seemed to come back, I tried to make the ness. changes, but windows did an update, and the files were removed again.

    Hi

    Cheers for the info, helps.

Actually delete was the right thing to do if you deleted the UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys (one highlighed in blue below and the other is 3 lines down in the image) if you deleted the folder called {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} then that not so good.

Did you try the FixIt? did it do anything?

Have you rebooted yet? if not do so but enter your BIOS and check that the CD DRIVE is still listed, if it is great.

Once rebooted does the drive list in Computer?

If not then in Device Manager click Action > Scan for Hardware Changes and see if it picks up your CD Drive.

If the drive is not listing in the BIOS its either come loose or as you where having a proplem with it before deleting the filters its broken.

as a longshot and this is the exact {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} full copy of the registry off a Vista SP2 machine I have here, then see the attached file, download and unzip then double click the reg file and at the warning of merging say ok, then reboot, hopefully it will add the registry files back.

So that fix it, program, just ended up saying CD Drive not fixed, and the Zip file just opened up in Word. Can I drag and drop somewhere? I did end up only deleting the filters not the hole file, so I guess I didn't screw things up too bad. Also when I put a disk in the drive it lights up when I close the door, and it runs for a few seconds as if it's about to autoplay. But no matter how many times I reboot, and make changes the drive doesn't exist even in devicemanager...

Thanks btw, for all your help.. If all else fails and I buy an external cd/drive, will it work on a different system, and bypass all these issues, or is going to keep giving me problems????
