Hi, i'd like to know if i can delete this files in my Avast Chest... i know they were recently found as being infected (6/18)... I'm guessing they are either all bad files, or not vital to my computer's functioning properly, because I have not noticed any ill efffects since they were quarantined... they are listed in my System Files tab, not the Infected files tab... little confused as to what the difference is... just wanted to double check:

Those are backups of critical system files, so if they get infected then avast! can restore the infected system file with an uninfected one. So, no you don't want to delete those.

oh okay i gotcha... that's what the VRDB (Virus Recovery DataBase) is backing up when it generates itself...

I have AVAST! running on my XP Pro box, looked in the chest and have the same files in it. Had to do a little research to figure out the purpose of the chest. Yeah, VRDB backups critical system files, the ones that if they get infected will cause your system to not function properly; so, AVAST! can restore them when they get infected. Got AVG running on both XP home boxes, and AntiVir on my 98SE box.
