I would like to change the startup Windows splash screen to a pix of my choosing, or none... How is it done?..

I read that deleting the Windows startup splash screen causes somesortof problem with updating or something..? What's the story on that?..

Do startup splash screens have something to do with the functionality of a software?.. Can they be deleted safely?...

The only thing I know forsure about deleting splash adverts from a freebie software, is the warning, in the freebie "Spybot", that says that to delete the adverts will damage the functionality of the software...

Another thing on deleting irritating splash screens...

This Compaq desktop starts up with a blinding flash of extremely BrightWhite splash screen.. making my eyes feel like needles are poking them... Probably from the light bouncing around the many bits of glass left in my eyes, after a small quantity of high-explosive detonated very close to my face...
Now I am conditioned to work and write in extremely soft dim light...

Is there a way to eliminate that bright white Compaq start up splash screen..? Or darken it to a pastel color?..

    Are we talking XP?

If so, you can manually change the splash screen. HERE is the info.

You can also Disable the splash screen.

There are plenty of applications available if that's what you want, but bear in mind I have seen problems caused by modifying the splash screen, either with a program or manually.

Freeware is sometimes supported by Ads.

Deleting these Ads can sometimes cripple the software.

That's not really relevant or similar as the Splash Screen in Windows, but playing with it can cause corruption.

Real Silly OoPs!... I failed to mention.. I'm running W98se in an 8-year old Pentium 2... It's not big enough to run XP, or I would... Can't afford a new PC at the moment...

I'm guessing that XP formula doesn't work for W98...

Do you know why modifying the start-up splash causes troubles?..

And what troubles?.. and is there a way around those glitches?..

I was having some shut-down problems with my 98se loads, till I changed the W98 splash screen to the XP screen, with "experience pack"... So it seems that the splash screen might have an integral connection to how the system starts and shuts-down.. given that the MG 98se update keeps the screen, and experience does too... or those software writing geniuses would likely have eliminated it entirely.. or at least given the option to customize it...

XP is a pleasant screen, nicer than the old yukky 98 screen, which I've seen too many hundreds of times.. It feels like wearing the same multicolored shirt daily for five years... I really want to personalize my PC, to my tastes.. by removing that silly Windows flag... I'm really not into flag waving, and all that hulabaloo.. and it's so in my face every day... I want to change it.. but not if it's gonna wreck the functionality of the machine...

I'm supposing if making modifications to the splash screen, damages the OS, I could always reload the W98se CD over the saved HD.. Unless having made the modifications then prevents that CD from installing..? which is something along the lines of something I read about it, years ago...

Have you ever modified a W98 splash screen, without any ill effects?..

Too-bad that's not an included option in the operating systems...
    Maybe one day..?

The current splash screen just gives the feeling that the front-door of my PC belongs to someone else's tastes.. like they're dressing me.. or like "I have to knock before entering my own place"... Know what I mean..?

How does the Windows 98 splash screen tie into the system?..

Does the splash screen have any OS function after the system has loaded?..

In Windows 98SE, the easiest way is to use TweakUI.

It's been a while since I've used 98, but it should work.

You can also edit your MSDOS.SYS file to remove it, and there are plenty of programs like X-Teq that do the same, or you can manually replace the image with one of your choosing.

    HERE is some info.

No one can tell you if you will have problems or not, and what the problem would be.

Corruption can cause anything. It's unlikely, but it can happen.

Ahhhh YES!... Finally Gone!.. Thankyou!.. and thanks to that Major Geeks TweakUI in the updates download...

... Like the wife Finally eloped with the mailman.. and all that's left, is to clean out the kennels one last time, and shoot her dogs...

Now is there any way of modifying the Compaq splash screen?..
