I have a question and first of all yes I do know that the Registry is something not to be messed with unless you know what you are doing.
What I would like to know is after I uninstall a program how do I make sure that everything for that program is gone from my computer and from my registry? I do have a few registry programs dl & installed such as RegScrubXP, WINer Tweak Registry Cleaner XP, CCleaner, & HDCleaner. I uninstall my program, reboot, run the programs just mentioned, reboot and do a regedit search for the uninstalled program and that program is still in my registry. So how do I get this information out of my registry when I delete the program??
    Thanks

When you run your regcleaner of choice it will search and find any paths/keys that go nowhere, you can then highlight the ones you thing are from the old uninstalled programs.

I find RegScrub to invasive in what its finding whereas Regcleaner is a safer option to start with. Once you install regcleaner and run it you are presented with a list if software that is installed in your PC ( some of the entries even if you dont recognise the names could be linked to other programs so be careful ) > have a look down that list and if you recognise something that has been uninstalled put a tick by its name > once you have done all of the ones you think are uninstalled just click Remove Selected. ( they are backed up just in case )

Then to mop up any stragglers Click Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do them All and delete all it finds.

another good option Regcleaner has is that it has a Startup List tab which will show you all the items that are starting at boot.

Ok I dl that Regcleaner and it went thru the steps but it does not find anything in the registry as to what I have uninstalled like a DVD burning program that I know is still in my registry because I can manually search for it in the registry and it comes up.
It found 5 entries but those were for my Yahoo Browser and are not safe to delete and I wouldn't delete them anyhow and yes I did have the default exclusions which was set to ignore HKEY registries as deleted so it would find things in the HKEY registry etc..
There was an about and I would have to pay to get better registry scan..
    So any other ideas???

Hi........this is perhaps the worst problem for PC users after virus threats......
I am new here ....but it is how i do this........

1.Before uninstall i keep in mind the Program's ".exe file name" and the name of the "folder" where it is installed.( u can use a note pad or if u forgot the names after delete.....just use any recovery tool to see it back)
    2.Then i search this 2 in Regseeker.
3.Rather deleting i go to the registry key entry on rigth click and delete the mother folder for that entry.

SO far it works......100% good for me.....but it seems very childish........any one with more accurate and professional idea?

BTW......there is a freeware called "Total uninstaller" that claims it deletes every possible entry any program creates after unistallation.........but i feel seek to manage
how it works.....evetually i have to talke some sleep!!!!!!!!!

I like your suggestion the only problem is that I will uninstall something on the "fly" and forget to write it down. I will just have to stop uninstalling on the "fly" and write things down and when I am doing my weekly maintenance use that time to remove it from registry as well.
Does anyone else out there have any ideas as to how to completely remove something from the registry that you have uninstalled??
I like to try out new programs and such so if anyone knows of a good free program that will remove uninstalled programs completely from the registry I am willing to try it. Notice I said a free program I can not afford to make a purchase on programs at the present time so I would be willing to try out something that is free.. :)

Thanks to everyone for their help and any suggestions

Unless I have downloaded the wrong thing or don't have it set up right that total uninstall does not log installs or give me an option to be able to uninstall something..

That RegCleaner link leads to a supposed 4.2 version. At least the screenshot says it is 4.2 by V Juorio. I d/led it and it isn`t RegClean version 4.2 as the screenshot shows , it is a totally new type of RegCleaner. Looks like someone bought out RegCleaner and changed it.

I am using the older RegCleaner 4.0. And would love to update to the 4.2. Anyone know where I can get it? Thx. I use RegCleaner 4.0 and a registered Registry Defragmentor as well. Love em.

The version in the link is the last known version ( 4.3 ) that Jouni produced and superseeds version 4.2 that the screenshot shows, it was after this version that JV started to develope JV powertools that later was bought out by Macecraft and called JV16 Powertools.

Halo is correct as usual. MG link leads to version 4.3 Build 780. Same as what I use weekly. Last free one, I think.

Check out my reply (#7), in thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36857

This post mentions the last free versions of RegClean and JV16.

Be very careful using JV16 as it is even more powerful than RegClean. Bazza
