You know under the "Winnt" folder? If you tell it show you all files even hidden ones, you get all these $NTUninstallKB****$ and these files get huge in size? Can I delete these on Windows 2000 Server after they have been there awhile? I am down to 404MB of a 4GB hard drive and need space badly. I have already removed all other temp files and unecessary files/programs and folders including old log files and such. What about changing the dump file from a "Full" to a Mini?

Since there is an option to NOT keep these files, I would assume that they are safe to delete, if you are certain that you won't be removing any of the corresponding updates/hotfixes. You may want to read this article, which describes this very procedure.

You may also want to consider installing more hard drives! Especially for a server. 4GB is NOT alot! I've seen windows XP's pagefiles alone take up 2GB at times. You can get a 300GB Seagate Barracuda SATA drive w/ 3.0Gb/s interface and 16MB cache for $100 and change.

    THanks...

I would Ghost to a newer larger hard drive, but the owner is reluctant, (skinflint), and the reason for all this was the old owner who wanted Server 2000 instead of 4.0 about 3 1/2 years ago. It has since gotten out of hand.

Ditto Mada Milty's advise HD's are alot cheaper and less time consuming, than trying to par down your files all the time, and 4GB has to be a typo for a server Right? PS Welcome to MG:D Just missed your post, slow fingers, tell the "Skin Flint" your time is costing him more than a new HD would.

Nope!! it was not a typo. It is in fact a 4GB Hard Drive. I do a full backup nightly, but I plan on getting a 160GB hard drive and just ghost it over. It shouldn't have any issues.

    Thanks for the welcome...

One question, though...Mada Milty stated, "Since there is an option to NOT keep them..." Where does it ask if I want to keep or delete them? I wasn't aware of this...

This is actually an option on the install for service packs. There's really only that one time you would see it.
