    Hello Folks,
I've been hit hard by the Trojan Horse Downloader virus.
AVG anti-virus found all of them (I think) and allowed me to move them to the "quarantine vault". However there are 83 files located there! Can I delete those file? Do they have influence over other non-affected files? Are there other things I should do to clean out the system.

After some Google exploration, I scanned the system and then purchased XoftSpy, reviewed as one of the best anti-spy programs, and it located and deleted many "spys". However, the Trojans still exist in the "vault".

So far today, I haven't received even one notice that another Trojan has entered the system. I presume that XoftSpy is doing its job.

I have only medium computer knowledge but you folks have shared excellent and easy to follow information in the past. So....once again, I'm thanking you in advance.
    Jack

I'm not sure I would agree that Xoftspy is one of the best anti-spy programs. In fact at one point Xoftspy was even on the rogue/suspect spyware removal tool list (recently removed but that does not mean they have a good program). You can see the rogue list here:

If you have infected files in your AVG vault, empty the vault.

If you have other problems on your system that you are worried about, run our full cleaning procedure given below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
