    Hi Folks,

Some time ago I installed vista onto my D drive in the hope that it would cure a software problem I had on the C drive - it didn't.

Although my computer is working fine now, I would like to be able to remove these duplicate vista OS files sitting on my D drive.
Can anyone advise how I can safely delete these, please?
    Regards
    Geoff.

So you have a dual-boot system now? Which is it booting by default - into C: or D: ?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the prompt response.
I've configured the computer to boot from the C drive. Having vista on the D drive is not causing a real problem it just more annoying seeing the option to boot from the second drive coming up on start-up and the thought that I can't delete these files.

I recommend booting into a live Linux system (such as PartedMagic) to delete the files. Deleting them from within Windows will take FOREVER due to permissions issues and whatnot, plus the time it takes to calculate what's being deleted before it actually deletes! There may still be a duplicate boot entry, which can be removed with bcdedit (from a command prompt) or a handy tool called EasyBCD.

EasyBCD has been suggested - install that in your C drive and edit the boot menu to remove the second Vista entry. Once that's done, and providing there is nothing else you need to keep on D you could simply format it from Vista.
