I'm trying to get rid of all Mcafee items in my new system. I've deleted the security center items and other files I've located through search, but still find quite a few Mcafee items in my registry. Is it advisable to delete such items from the registry?

If you go to the "Issues" button on the lefthand side, it'll scan your registry and clean it out.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I don't understand how CCleaner, or any reg cleaner, can take out valid reg items without be prompted. How would it know that I want all Mcafee items removed? Anyway, so you know, I have run CCleaner many times and Mcafee is still in the reg. So, my question remains, is it okay to remove Mcafee items from the registry without fear of screwing up something? Thanks for your help.

What I did with Mcafee was to let CCleaner run the issues ...and some reg files that it found for mcafee it couldn't delete ...but I noted the file and then manually deleted them. The rest I just don't bother with ...:)

What you're saying then, TimW, is try to delete from issues if possible. But don't go into the registry and delete Mcafee items. Is this correct? Thanks!

Yes and no ...yes - delete from CCleaner
No - go into the registry and delete anything that CCleaner says it can't.:) :)

I have been using a program called System Mechanic for a couple of years now because I think its one of the best programs I've used to fix, tweak and optimize windows for best performance. It repairs, defragments, compacts, optimizes, fixes, and backs-up the registry, it deletes invalid registry references automatically or manually. The professional version includes an invalid uninstaller which also removes invalid components/reference files for such cases. it also a built in auto-updating anti-virus, defragmentor, and it clears your browser catch, deletes invalid folder names, file names, temporary files, and invalid uninstaller inforation, and associated files and more I recomended you give it a try http://www.iolo.com for a free 30 day trial version.

The registry files should be safe to delete if you delete the right ones specified by Mcafee tech support. They may even have a batch file on their website that will allow you to do this. Check and see!
