Dell AIO 962 low ink warning

I have 2 sets of cartridges for my dell aio 962. the first black cartridge was emptied a couple of weeks ago and i replaced it with a new one. now the new one is nearly empty, so i refilled the old one. when i insert the new cartridge into the machine and print with it, the low ink warning comes up, saying it has approx 30 pages left to print. thinking that i simply had not put enough ink into it, i removed it and put more ink in. This resulted in overfilling, and ink leaking out of the print head. I let it drip and cleaned it up then reinserted it and the low ink warning still says it has approx 30 pages left to print. the color cartridge was also reading low, so i removed it and added ink to it (all 3 colors). When i re-inserted it, it did not show any change at all. I have turned off the power, printed test pages, switched cartridges, etc., and it still comes up the same way every time i insert these cartridges. I read somewhere that some machines have a memory for a certain number of cartridges, and you have to rotate them in order to get them to read new levels. I'm not sure that would apply in this case, because a few weeks ago the black cartridge read empty, and now it shows ink in it, but at a very low level. Any input or suggestions?

 

Welcome to MG. Some manufacturers are getting smarter and introducing methods to detect re-filled cartridges. I think there is a little gadget you can buy to swipe across the cartridge to neutralise a barcode or something. Sorry this is vague, and not very helpful. Refilling experts please step in. Bazza
