So the floppy drive in my Dell 2200 has died. I took it out, blew it out with compressed air, reinstalled it, no better. There's about a 30% chance it will open any files. It mainly just churns, chatters, growls.

So I go on ebay looking for a replacement drive, and all I see are for 2350, 2400, etc. No 2200 to be found.

I should have made note of the manufacturer and model # when I had it out, and that's easy enough to do, but what do you suppose is so different that none show up on ebay?

I may end up getting an external, but that's just one more thing to have hanging around.

One IT guy told me most floppy drives are interchangable, and the only thing I see different about this is that there is no front panel, the front panel of the tower acts as the panel/access slot.

    Any ideas?

As you have a desk top computer, there shouldn't be any problem with going to a local computer store, buying a floppy drive, and replacing it. All current systems that I've dealt with use MicroSoft drivers for the floppy drive. As for the front cover, all that is necessary is to remove it! Hope this helps!:)
