I have a dell dimension 4400 ram memory and want to upgrade the ram. It only has 128mb in it now. Its super slow. I have a HP with only 528mb and its very fast.

I think adding a 528mb card with the 128mb existing bar should be great.

Dell sells 528mb for $30 Other places sell for $19-$23 on adverage. The "Other Huy" sells "capadible ram" not dells ram. Should I get it from dell to be safe?
    Thanks

Dell doesn't make their own RAM, they buy it from the same manufacturers that everyone else does.

If you want to be sure you get the right stuff, buy from here: Memory for Dimension 4400 They guarantee it'll work and give life-time warranties and refunds and all other good stuff.

Thank You. I just ordered it. Do I leave in the 126mb or do I remove it when adding the new 512mb card? If left in does this make it 638mb of combined ram?

Also do I update the BIOS first. If so how is that done?
    Thanks

The bio's will automatically update the amount of memory. It will advise you first that the amount has changed.

No need to update BIOS. Go ahead and leave the 128mb in. You will have 128+512=640mb but it will probably show as slightly less because of share video memory. So 640-32=608mb or 640-64= 576mb depending on your graphics cache.

Usually with RAM upgrades, the 90% of the time all you have to do is plug it ni and restart the computer.

If you run into any weird problem at that point, take the upgrade back out so the computer goes back to the way it used to be and (hopefully) starts acting normal again, and post back here with as much details as you can think of. We'll get you taken care of.

Wow. That was easy. took less then 5 min. Its a WORLD of differance. Its much much faster just adding a 512 chip. Was going to do a gig yet dont think I need to
    Thanks

If you can use them, I have 2 sticks(256MB each) that you can have.
