I was updating the Drivers on my Sisters Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series Laptop. I think something has gone wrong with the graphics drivers. Now when it boots up i get a black screen but i can move the mouse and can see its cursor.

Its running windows 8 but other than that i dont know the specs sorry. I also dont have a Dell Recovery CD. I have booted into safe mode and there is a menu on a blue screen but i dont know what to do next.

Is there anything i can do to fix this as she has files on it she needs to access.

    Thanks https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

You learned a lesson the hard way: don't mess with the drivers unless you have a specific problem.

Here are instructions to boot with a CD/DVD and change to legacy mode then remove the bad graphics drivers.

Other option: pull the hard drive, attach it to a working computer that is running and copy the files she has not backed up off the computer.

Again, it is never a good idea to have only 1 copy of a file and stored only on the computer's hard drive.

Note: I have zero experience with Win 8 so I can't run through the steps to tell you what to do.

The Dell page I got to only has drivers for 9x, ME, 2K and NT.

Since you don't have a Win 8 disk, download one

Note: This only works for Windows 8.1. If your sister only has Windows 8 and never updated (support for 8 ended Jan. 15, 2016) then you are probably out of luck.

If you don't know how to burn an ISO, then I suggest you take the computer to someone who can fix it.

Plodr, if he put the service tag on that page....
Trying to remember old methods- I seem to remember the DEL button used to get dell into bios page- like f8 on others.

Throwing myself into the conversation. Assuming in's Windows 8.1 I would download This...
You will need to urn it into a bootable drive - either USB or DVD.
    Rufus is easy.

I think you should be able to repair the system as a choice when you boot up from the drive.
Of course you might have to change bios settings to boot from the external drive.

As Stephen_16 post#10- You can download and write to cd/dvd , and then when starting up , and the windows install comes up, click to repair.
One thing you could try is....................
Disconnect power supply, remove battery, and press and hold down power button for at least 20 seconds.
Then connect power supply only (no battery), and power up.
This sometimes clears a bad driver, or other update-worth a try.
If it powers up O.K, then let it run for a while, and when it has proved O.K, then shut down, and replace battery.
If it doe not start with just power supply, then try it with battery installed.
