OK, so my ever lovable gf comes to me and finally says this thing is very slow since her friend loaded up OpenOffice on her XP home machine with 256MB RAM.rolleyes Now, I checked with Dell's profiler which just basically told me that I have 256MB DDR RAM whereas Crucial reports DDR2 PC5200 is installed which can accept this 512MB stick or more than likely I'll go for the 1GB DDR2 PC 5300, either way it's darn cheap memory!:cool Oh, it's not a dual channel mobo.

Anyways, can I use Crucial.com as gospel or should I double check with Dell CS?:puke BTW, without anything running the RAM used is %80 so you can imagine the hard drive working overtime trying to cache everything.:-D

I have the Service Tag# if needed. Thanks as always folks!:) Cheers!

I usually trust the RAM sites, but if you want to be sure you can check with Dell. It can't hurt right?

Well, it did hurt!:-D Man that machine is sooo bloody slow, Dell doesn't like FF, IE needed Flash etc, Dell's site is really convoluted...etc.! http://bestsmileys.com/frustrated/7.gif:banghead:-D

Yup, it's DDR2.:) Thanks for your stupid profiler Dell!:puke How the heck could she manage all that lag?:confused Anyways, gonna get a 1GB stick for $40 locally, maybe even today. Man am I glad to be back on my quad!:cloud9:drool:cool

Before you rush off, are you sure the computer will accept that size of RAM stick?

Dell no longer lists the computer on their site, and I cannot find any more on it from Google, so I am at a loss to answer the question at this time.

I got it from their site as an upgrade option, a 1GB DDR2 667MHz Dell stick or a Corsair. I got the info through their service tag#. The manual also includes Inspiron 1300 which is what Crucial identified it as. Tag# is 8268D81 if you wish to check. I think that's safe enough to post and if not, then please report this post. Thanks.:)

It should be safe to post because you con only download drivers or get support with it.

Anyway, if you are sure that you can do it, then it is worth it, definitely.
