   Not fully getting your issue in my head yet, but if a specific battery is the only way your Dell is charging then is that battery an original Dell battery or a 3rd party non Dell battery?
   
   So is your battery:
   1. Original Dell and if so how old is your PC?
   2. Is the battery a 3rd party replacement battery
   
   Does your Dell work on mains only with no battery plugged in?

   D630's are over 3 years old, maybe close to six. We leased them at work.
   You're lucky in the original battery lasted past 2 years. You really need to clarify your post?
   The battery will not charge?
   The charger doesn't power the laptop?
