To the moderators and administrators of Major Geeks,I am sorry for not creating a new thread for my current problem, and posting on this one again. But I have been looking around for about 15 minutes to no avail trying to find where I can do that in here. If this post belongs some where else in here, please move it to the appropriate location so I can receive responses on it. Once again, sorry for the trouble. I know in some forums they are real funny about that.

Well, any ways. Here is my new problem.
I have a Dell Precision 340 work station.
It asked me to do a re-start for an update.
    Once updated,my internet was gone.
I had the cable guy come out and look at the modem.
He said that he has 30 years experience with computers.
And that from the pop ups he saw,and some things with the little yellow question marks, that he is very certain that it is a driver issue.
He said go to Dell, and that they would have the driver downloads,or I could email them, and that they would respond. He even said they responded to him on some thing in an hour.
OK,I went to the site and looked for drivers to download to my flash drive,in order to take it to the computer in question. The only downloads I could find where the BIOS downloads, and Device Manager downloads 1,2,and 3. I downloaded them to my flash drive, and when i tried to open them,it said "No files to open, please download,,bla bla bla".
OK,here is what I think need. The Dell support McAfee update.
But I am unsure. I do believe the cable guy in that I need the drivers to connect to the internet. I just can not for the life of me find them.
And when I go to Dell to try to email them,it keeps giving me the run around.
What I have is an old computer,I guess the only way to email them is to be in the market for new products. If not,it seems like one can only use the long distance charged telephone number. grrrr
So if you can help me get drivers to connect to the internet,I might be able to get the old girl going again.
    Oh yes,when I the download,it said SAVE FILE,and I did.
Then I went to the pop up with the download in it.
The I hit "Open Download location file",and not Open. It was from there that I sent the files to my flash drive. Question = Was I supposed to download it to my computer? Understanding that this computer that I am using is an HP and has no problems. I looked into the files on the flash drive,I forget the MB's numbers, but the matched the amount that it said in the download pop up window where you can open the download. So I am sure I have the BIOS files and the DEVICE MANAGER files on the flash drive ( And now on the Dell as well).
Oh yes, another Question = If I get frustrated enough at this problem and wish to just go ahead and reinstall windows XP, will I still have my downloaded video's and YouTube video player? My YouTube player is an older version, and much better then what the new one is. The new one does not have as many screen size settings and does not play as loud.
I know about the IMPORT option,I just don't know what it will import or won't import.

Well, thank you for your time and concern in this matter in advance. It is kind of important to me seeing as how that is the computer that I have my pics of my family on. OK,I await your sage advice folks. :)

P.S. To be more specific, the cable guy said driver "and software" problems.

First, this is the right place to post this question. And if you posted in the wrong place, someone would move your post to a better place; people here are not so difficult. :cool

Now, this may or may not be a driver problem - let's find that out...

You mentioned Windows XP, so this is the OS you have installed on that Dell? (Ah, and before I forget it: if you reinstall Windows, then you will lose everything stored on that computer, unless you back it up first.)

If you open the Device Manager, do you see any devices with a yellow exclamation point? (To open the Device Manager go to Control Panel | System | tab Hardware | click 'Device Manager'.)

Next question: in Device Manager, click on the [+] left of Network Adapters; what does it list as your network adapter?

When you open Internet Explorer, and it cannot connect to the Internet, do you see an option to "diagnose network connection"? Can you try to run it?

Hello, and thank you for your response. Also, thank you for filling me in on how it was cool to post where I did.

As the the question "If you open the Device Manager, do you see any devices with a yellow exclamation point?". The answer is "Yes". there where three of them. And to the Question as to the "diagnose network connection", I did so in Internet Explorer. I think it said some thing like " LAC2 Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ehternet ADAPTER".
But,this is of no concern, for I did not know how to download to a flash drive until tonight. I have a version of an "FLV Player" and some video's that I enjoy. The flash player is no longer available, and the newer version is of a lesser grade. As I type this, I am attempting to download it my a flash drive now.
I have the Dell which I replaced with this HP Compaq that I am typing to you now on. Well,it is the old Dell compared to the HP,But it is the new Dell compared to the Dell with the problem. It is a newer model.

From here on out,I will refer to the Dell with the problem as the "old Dell",
and the newer Dell, as the Dell.

OK,so here is where I am at, I am backing up my files and programs to my flash drive from the old Dell with the connection problems.
If successful, I could reinstall windows xp on it. But I know Windows XP support is about to expire, weather from Dell support or Microsoft,I think by January you will need to have all drivers, files or what not saved some where because you will not be able to download them from online any more.
At least that is what I have heard from online friends.

In my previous post,I may have sounded like I suffer from some nostalgia concerning the old Dell. This could not be farther from the truth. I just did not want to lose some of what I had on it. The Old Dell is a model that must have one of those round cable female ends with all the holes in it to plug in a key board. The Newer Dell uses only a USB port for that purpose. I have not the key board to replace it now. But I think that when I do,(which will be very soon indeed) if the flash drive is successful in downloading what I want to keep,I will get rid of the Old Dell. But,until then I think if the flash drive works how I want,I will just go ahead and reinstall Windows Xp.
I know that by doing this, instead of working to solve the problem by other means, that I am passing up a teachable moment where computers are concerned. I care about the info on the old Dell, but I just don't care about the old Dell itself if I have the newer one just sitting here waiting to replace it.lol But Perhaps I will keep the old Dell in case one day I need a problem to solve.

OK,summery of what I am going to do.
#1 download my stuff from old Dell to flash Drive.
#2 Reinstall Windows XP an old Dell.
#3 Install information from flash drive onto newer Dell.
#4 Reinstall information from flash drive onto Old Dell.
#5 I will more then likely, even if what I do to the old Dell works, get a keyboard with a USB port and replace it with the newer Dell.

I am sure that reinstalling XP will get it fixed. I might even try dumping the core on the old Dell before it is all over and restore it to factory settings.
Which,if I do means, that I will be back to find out how to do that.lol

As I have said before about my problem with the Old Dell,I did not know how to save to a flash drive. Now that I do,the importance of the old Dell is not of such great consequence.

I do have one more question though. Can the old Dell "Precision 340" handle Windows Vista?

Once again, Thanks to every one for their knowledge, and sharing it with me and all.

P.S. I guess if I reinstall windows XP,I won't have that problem to solve at a later date. But I am OK with it. he he

OK,here is what I am dealing with now folks.
I have on my computer an IP Cam. ( Link for Cam below)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayI...m=250912663555&ssPageName=ADME:X:eRTM:AU:1123

OK,here is my problem. All functions work save only record video. What I think I need is a Cam program in order to record video on this Cam. The video that it pumps out is clear and fast with no lagging. I can only take snap shots of the action thus far. My hope it that I can use what ever program may be out there in conjunction with the programming I already have. I have it already set up for email snap shots when sensor
is tripped. I would like to email video when sensor is tripped.

Here is a you tube video,I don't know what program I am using for my cam now,,,but the one the fella is using looks exactly like what I have.

The box I received says MJPG WIRELESS/WIRED IP Camera. ( Got it from China,so you know it is a knock off.lol )

Thank you all for your valuable time.
