Dell screen problen (not black screen)

I just bought this laptop on eBay and when it arrived the screen wouldn't work properly. At best I get a solid light colored screen with vertical stripes The colors are compatable with the desktop colors. When it goes to sleep and I press the "enter" key, I'll get a brief flash of the desktop but then it goes back to the solid screen. I've hooked it up to an external monitor and it works fine that way. Any suggestions on anything I could try?

if it was like that when u bought it u should send it back or call them up

 

Done that but he doesn't want to take it back. What I'm looking for is some
way to make it work. The computer repair shop says it needs a new screen which is very pricy. Anybody have any other ideas I can try?

 

i know something you can try post that you are looking for one of them screens on the buy\sell\trade forums on here you might just find one cheap

 

i dont think u can just buy any screen and stick it on there.. most likely it will have to be from Dell and precisely for that model... im pretty sure that the guy doesnt want to take it back. I wouldnt either, make him take it back ang return the money to u... i wouldnt be surprised that he sold it because of the screen

i would get a new inverter board first.

just got the board for my dell today.

 

Just one little thing you could check, is where the lead is between the screen and keyboard, as they can kink, and fray, and not always obvious.
