Could be you house voltage, worth checking with a meter. I have a friend that lost almost all of his electronic item due to the neutral wire in the service to his house being loose causing voltage fluctuations.

Are the ratings for voltage and wattage on the new adapter the same as the old one?

Also, how old is the battery? As they age, they no longer fully charge and it is a full charge that acts like a feed back to the amount of current that is going through the adapter. :wave:wave:wave

120 is the line voltage in. There should be printed on the adapter voltage and milliwatt out, (fine print).
Is it the same as the old one? (Assuming you still have it, that is).

If the voltage is high will it get reduce if I use use a surge protector

No, a surge protector will not change the line voltage, and I really doubt if that is your problem, assuming you are in the U.S. Your ac voltage should be very close to 120, plus or minus 3 volts normally.

    Okay,

Take the battery out and run the machine, does it still get hot? How hot are we talking about, too hot to touch? Any fumes/oders from the adapter?
