DEP, Slow My Computer with Error Message, and Errors Intermittently While Operating

Hello, I have had the following problems for the last 3 days now, they pretty much just started happening and I do not visit malware-infested sites, though the errors did begin in conjunction with a use of facebook, so maybe they're lowering their standards (e.g. an application in my fiancee's profile, but she doesn't run them much)

Problem 1: The following message occurs quite often (this is the event viewer version of it, I forget where to find the dump of the most recent popup message), mostly when I run a program or try to browse a directory, with "My Computer" being the most frequent offender:

Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00c896bc.

Found the popup while searching for the text of Problem 2:

Application popup: svchost.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x00c896bc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Problem 2: Ever since this began, whenever I boot up my computer, it takes an incredible amount of time for the desktop to show up, and I get Data Execution Prevention messages as follows (sort of, can't find a log of the message):

Windows has prevented the General Host Service from running to avoid doing harm to your computer

This message pops up about 8-10 times (if that # is important I can reboot and post it with a screencap.)

Problem 3: It takes an incredibly long time to load the My Computer directory in explorer (typing C: and hitting enter is normal speed) My Computer takes about a minute to two mintes to show up. When booting up, the startup takes 2-5 minutes to get to a fully functional desktop.

One other symptom I noticed while investigating before finding this site:

netbios-ssn sessions in netstat pointing to my printer, even when not on.

Hi, I was wondering if an admin could close this thread, I found the cause of my troubles. For some reason the Windows Image Acquisition service has begun to act up. I thought I had tested for that problem when I set it to manual, thinking that this meant I had control of whether it would try to start up or not. After being told that manual means any program can run it as needed, I disabled WIA and all my problems vanished. I am still not certain why WIA went crazy, the only things I use it with (so far as I know) are my HP PSC 2510 All-In-One and my Sony DSC-P10 Camera. As I am fine with just using the TWAIN Drivers for my scanner in photoshop rather than WIA, I plan to just leave it disabled permanently. Thanks for the services you offer here - James
