Is it worth the trouble? I would like to make a gaming laptop but my friend told me it would be a waste of money/time as buying from a site/store is less expensive and already made. However, my budget will not be able to exceed over $500.

Also, what parts differ from a PC?

    Hi

Sadly while its possible your friend is right, its best to buy a laptop as its way way too much trouble to source the parts as many are different to a desktop, plus the hardest part would be the case and a case that would fit with all the hardware as laptop makers spend alot of time and effort designing these machines and in many cases with custom parts.

Cost would likely far exceed your budget too as a gaming laptop if your a serious gamer would need one of the higher end dedicated onboard graphic cards/chips from ATi or Nvidia and those types of laptops are in the $1000 range to play current games OK.

Desktops are best for a gamer IMO.

    First, thanks for the response.

The thing is, I really don't care for sound/graphics too much. Video games to me have been about gameplay/online. I just want to be able to play a game without the constant freezing of my PC. Would that be achievable with my budget?
