Desk top monitor going to sleep mode

Hello.My problem is that my monitor goes to sleep mode as soon as you turn on the monitor then the monitor screen turns black.I tried shutting off the computer then restarting it but it does the same thing.Tried starting the computer in safe mode but the monitor still goes to sleep mode.I put it on another computer and the monitor works so im guessing the computer is having the problem not the monitor.So i was wondering what could be wrong with the computer..Thank you

Hi

What make and model is your monitor?

Have you added any new hardware to your PC before this happened and if so what was it?

The last time I had this was on a DELL PC in work, by no means is this a DELL issue, but the problem was traced to the Graphic Card, so what I would do and if your Graphics cad is not a on-board solution but an actual card, is to and if you are confident to carry this out, is to with PC off, is to carefully take your Graphics card out and then replace it so its firmly in place, then connect up your monitor again and see if it works now.

If you are not confident in doing the above then ask a friend to do this for you.

Alternatively to rule out a few parts you could do the below and try....

A different monitor
A different graphics card

If you dont have spares then see if a freind has one of the above or both to help you test.

Another way that might work if you have a graphics card with two ports. Sut off the computer and reboot with the monitor connected to the other port.

Thank You for responding.No nothing has been installed new to this computer.The Computer is a HP & the monitor is a HPw2338h.I hooked up the monitor to our Dell computer & it works very well.
