Just finished removing a virus threat through the forum two days ago. Whilst on the desktop I right click and refreshed my screen. Then my desktop changed to a solid black.
I went to the change desktop background and tried to change it back but it stays solid.
    I have windows 7 running 64bit.
I saw a thread but he was running XP.
Have scan the system twice already and the system is clean.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.
I did restore the system back to the date i had the system cleaned.
    The desktop is restored.
I am scanning it again just to make sure that there are no infections.
    Will post back.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I tried the link and did not get a good result.
What I have noticed and think is the cause of the lost background is working as the administrator.
I just can't remember what happened. But it seems that I am always longed in as Administrator. I just went ahead and created another user called home and I could go the control panel and change all the desktop settings.
However if I am log in as the administrator I cannot.
Is there a way to change the settings of the administrator to another user name.
Is there a way not to have the log in screen show the user name so that there is only one user since this is just a home computer.
As said, in the admin setting all the desktop background are checked and no matter how you select them it does not go back.
Hope this will shed some light on the problem.
    Thanks

I think I finally solved the problem reading from another forum.
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes
From User name that I was using I found out that the above folder was empty.
I created another user and copied the file in the theme folder to the user name that I was using.
From there I was able to change the desktop.
I do not know how that folder became empty.
Did have some virus that was cleaned though.
    Thanks
