    Hi,
Have you tried a system restore to when the issue was not there??. Is this a laptop or tower?? as it may be that your graphics card could be starting to fail. Try this first.... start> control panel> display> desktop> set position to "stretch".

It is a tower (Mesh Computers).....a few years old but very little has gone wrong; the warranty is now out of date. I dare not try a restore. If anything goes wrong, I know the reboot disk is defective.

I did try stretching the desktop. It did not work.

What is odd is that, when I first boot the PC, the full desktop pic flashes up and then crops. This also happened when I applied "stretch". The other system desktop options still crop, but even the images won't come up, just 20% blank gold, 80% white!

The icons remain in position at all times.

BTW..... it only happens on my user, the desktops on other three users are fine. Does this mean the graphics card is probably ok? Are there any other symptoms of a graphics card failure that I could check please?

Thanx4 the suggestions so far. These things usually are educated trial and error.

    Hello,
See if this works. You will have to edit the registry.

Click Start, Run, and type “regedit” then click on OK to start the regedit utility.

    Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Create two new STRING values of “Wallpaperoriginx” and “Wallpaperoriginy”. After creating them or if they already exist, set both values to zero.

Edit: this needs to be done in an admin account. If the account is a limited account, I think you will have to change it to admin in order for the changes to take affect.
