I recently was blessed with Brave Sentry & some kind of desktop hijack. I think I've corrected almost everything, but still can't change the photo on my desktop. It only allows me to change the color. Any ideas?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Give the below a try.

    Fixing Locked Desktop
Also you should right click on your Desktop and select Properties. Then click the Desktop tab and then the Customize Desktop button. Now in the next window that comes up click the Web tab. Make sure at the bottom that Lock desktop items is unchecked. Then in the Web pages: box delete all items but My Current Home Page and make sure it is unchecked too. Then click OK. Apply. OK.

I followed those instructions, but all settings were as they should be. No exra web pages and the desktop lock was unchecked. When I look at desktop properties, the "Browse" and "Position" buttons are gray, so all I can change is the color. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Just one more thing to try before we would have to run thru standard malware cleaning steps. Try the below.

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fixme.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fixme.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.

I get an error message, saying it "cannot import the file, not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes."

Close down all applications and windows, especially browser Windows and try again.

You're welcome. The registry patch just cleaned up some settings left over from your hijacker that was locking your desktop.
