Today the icons on 7 of my apps changed to a disk with red, yellow, and green on the outside and blue on the inside; the standard google icon. Before they were the appropriate icons for the apps, a pin for maps, an M for gmail, and so on.
Since they are all the same it was difficult to find the right one quickly, so I tried to change them back by right clicking on the icon and clicking on "change icon", only there was no "change icon". It was on all my other icons, but not on the ones that changed. So I deleted them all, intending on re-installing them.
There are two ways to install google apps to the desktop; neither worked.
    1) loading the app, clicking on the three dots in the upper right hand corner, clicking on more tools, and then clicking on create shortcut. Only create shortcut isn't there to click on.
    2) loading the app, reducing the size, dragging the address to the desktop. That works, but when I click on the new icon, a short text file opens.

So, how do I restore these apps to my desktop, with the right icons?
