Desktop Icons

Running XP Pro--I change the icons of My Computer and Network Places on my desktop and every time I turn the computer off and then back on the icons are changed to their defaults. Any suggestions here would be appreciated, thanks

 

I am changing them with the display properties and choosing Desktop--Customize Desktop button. I can log on and off and they are still changed. It is when I shut off the system and on again that they change back to the defaults

 

Hey Geeks get this. When I was checking my profiles I saw some strange entries. There were my profiles for my user accounts "User" and then there were duplicates called "User".Windows and networkservice.nt authourity and localservice.nt authority all under Doc and Settings. Also in my profiles list I had a unknown remote user. When I deleted the User.windows and the unknown remote user profile my changed desktop icons remained on startup. So, since I dont remember ever making a roaming profile what could this be? I am running a Netgear mr814 router/gateway so I could not imagine a hacker getting through to do this. So maybe I downloaded a bad program?
